Javier Dayes

Artist Bios:

Javier Dayes, born in Manchester, Jamaica is an architecture student turned artist. He sees his ultimate canvas as the public realm, producing public art installations and interventions.

As a multi-disciplinary artist with an eye for creative visualization, Javier explores textures and colors through drips and splashes of paint to create abstract forms; his performance like painting style is influenced by Jackson Pollock. Dayes’ practice also includes photography, digital art, installations and writing. A true multi-disciplinary creative of the modern era, he is constantly feeding the curiosity of his creativity while highlighting cultural values.

For the works featured in this exhibition, Dayes began with photographic images from his friend Cesar Buelto, a successful portrait photographer, cinematographer and Creative Director in Kingston, Jamaica.  With his abstracted intervention, Javier makes the photographs his own, playing with colour while both isolating and elevating the subject. Javiers’ work has been shown widely in Jamaica and was featured in the exhibition Due West, at the National Gallery of Jamaica in 2019.
